FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ's) |
|
|
- Do I have to pay sales tax?
We only collect sales tax on purchases shipped or billed to a
Georgia address. Duties, taxes or brokerage fees to a non-US address
are your responsibility. Use tax laws vary by State. It is your
responsibility to pay your state if it is one that collects tax
on internet purchases.
- How much is shipping?
Shipping is based on UPS shipping rates and is dependent upon
the weight and size of your item.
- Step 1: After you've found the items you
are interested in, click the "Add to cart" button"
- Step 2: You will see that it now shows you
have one of that item in your basket.
- Step 3: Click the View Cart/Checkout button
in the upper left corner of the page.
- Step 4: When the Shopping cart page appears,
click the "Checkout" button.
- Step 5: Choose your State from the list.
- Step 6: Enter Your Zip Code and Select the
Country your package will be shipped to.
- Step 7: Choose your desired method of shipping
from the drop down listing.
- Step 8: Click the "Verify Order"
button. The applicable shipping rate will be displayed based
on the zip code to which the order will be shipped.
- Can I have my order sent to a P.O. Box?
Due to postal regulations, shipping to a P.O. Box is not available
on some items. We recommend UPS shipping to a work or neighbor’s
address in most circumstances where a P.O. Box is the only valid
shipping address. We offer shipping by Priority Mail for delivery
to a Post Office Box. We only recommend the use of Priority Mail
for shipment to FPO or APO addresses. If you desire to have your
order shipped by Priority Mail, you will be required to pay any
additional shipping charges prior to your order being shipped.
- Is it okay that my credit card statement address is
different than my shipping address?
Yes. When completing the online ordering process, credit card
billing information is entered first and the shipping information
entered next. You are ONLY required to complete the "Ship
To" information if your order is being shipped to an address
that is different than your billing address. You must provide
the billing information exactly as it appears on your credit card
billing statement. Please allow additional time for us to process
your order due to the additional security steps required for orders
that are shipped to somewhere other than the billing address.
In these cases, we have to verify the authenticity of the order
so that we protect against credit card fraud.
- I live outside the continental U.S. Can I still make
purchases?
Yes. You can purchase from & have your order shipped to any
location worldwide. However, the shipping charges may vary from
what is reflected on your order. In such cases, you will be required
to pay any additional shipping charges prior to your order being
shipped. Simply follow the instructions on the order page when
you check out for orders outside the continental United States.
- Will I have to do any welding for hitches that I purchase
from you?
All of the hitches we offer are custom-fit, bolt-on installations.
There is no welding required.
- Can you give me some insight into electric brake controllers?
An electric trailer brake controller is a device that supplies
power from a vehicle to a trailer's electric brakes.
There are two types of electric brake controllers. Although the
control methods are different, both types of controllers are very
similar in operation. Each allows the user to adjust output or
braking power. Each has a pressure sensitive manual override trigger
that allow the operator to apply the trailer brakes independent
of the towing vehicle's brakes. Each controller type has the same
wiring configuration.
- Time Delay Activated ("solid state")
- A brake pedal switch is enabled by a solid state controller
and applies a gradual voltage to the trailer's brakes using
a Time Delay Circuit.
Advantages: Solid state controllers have a low profile,
are inexpensive, and can be mounted on any angle.
Disadvantages: When towing with Hazard flashers on,
the Digital Display will flash with the Hazard Flashers in most
installations. Pulsing may be felt in the trailer brakes if
the Brake Control is set too aggressively. The "Pulse Preventer"
can isolate the Brake Control from the flashers and eliminate
the flash/pulse situation, however, so there is a solution to
these issues.
- Inertia Activated ("pendulum style")
- A brake pedal switch enables a Pendulum Style Controllers.
The controller is activated by a Pendulum Circuit that senses
the towing vehicle's deceleration and applies a proportional
voltage to the trailer's brakes. When properly adjusted the
trailer will decelerate at the same speed as the tow vehicle,
which increases braking efficiency and reduces brake wear.
Advantages: Pendulum style controllers have a smooth
braking action and operate well under severe braking conditions.
Disadvantages: Are usually bulky, more expensive, and
must be mounted and calibrated on a level surface.
- Can you give me some information to help me wire my
brake controller?
Hitch Supplied Brake Controllers require 4 wire Connections and
are traditionally color coded and connected as described below:
- Trailer Feed Wire (usually blue)
- Supplies brake power for the controller to the connector
(6-way or 7-way trailer connector) at the back of the towing
vehicle. If a factory tow package is installed in your towing
vehicle, you probably already have this wire run from the
dash to the rear of the vehicle. Otherwise, the wire probably
is routed along the underside of the vehicle and through the
firewall to the desired Brake Control mounting location. To
get through the firewall, you may have to drill a hole if
you cannot find an existing one that will work. It is highly
recommend to use a grommet to protect the wire from being
rubbed through.
- Ground (usually white) - Connects
brake controller to any reliable ground source.
- Brake Switch (usually red) -
Provides voltage signal to brake controller when the brake
is pressed down to let the controller know that the brake
pedal has been depressed. This wire can be found near the
top of the brake pedal. Using a test light or volt-meter,
you can test the wires that extend from the switch. The wire
that has power when the brake pedal is pressed down can be
found will be the brake switch wire. This wire should be tapped
into using a scotch lock.
- Battery Power (usually black)
- Provides power to the brake controller. Some vehicles with
factory tow packages already have this wire run from the dash
to the battery and should have circuit protection of some
type installed as well (in-line fuse or circuit breaker, for
example). If the wire does not already exist, a wire must
be run through the firewall and connected directly to the
battery with an in line circuit breaker.
- If the part I order is not available, do you ship an
"interchangeable" part?
- No. Unless you request that we do so, we will not replace a
part that you order with another part without your knowledge and
approval. You will only receive the part that you order.
- How soon can I expect my part to be shipped?
- We will ship your order out to you as soon as possible. Normally,
we try to ship out orders within 48 hours. In cases where it is
not possible to do so, you will be notified by email or phone
of the status of your order.
- What if my order is damaged when I receive it?
- If your order arrives damaged, please notify us immediately
by email or phone. We will then take the appropriate actions required
to get you a replacement part ASAP.
- Can I get my order by the next day?
- Yes. On the order form of our page, you will see several options
regarding shipping. UPS Next Day shipping is one of the options
that you may select on that page.
- Is there a "real person" that I can talk to
on the phone if I need to do so?
- Yes. We believe in always being accessible to our customers.
You may choose to communicate with us by email (which is preferred),
or by phone by calling 1-866-323-0220. In either case, you will
receive prompt, courteous service and will assist you in answering
your questions or resolving any issue related to your order.
- How do I know my information is secure when I fill out
your order form?
All transactions submitted through our web site is encrypted for
your protection and is handled on a secure server. Our secure
server (designated by a closed lock in most browsers) uses SSL
(Secure Socket Layer) encryption technology. Access to a SSL-enabled
server is made through URLs that begin with "https:"
rather than "http:". The secure connection is made on
port 443 rather than port 80, and all traffic in both directions
is encrypted. The secure server must present a digital certificate
before the connection will be trusted by the client.
- Do you store my credit card number and/or information?
No. Your orders and payment take place in "real time".
This means that no one at our offices is required to handle your
credit card information in any way. It is transmitted using the
Authorize.net gateway and
approved or declined immediately. Your order is stored on our
server in a restricted area, but your credit card information
is never stored in any way (encrypted or otherwise), on our web
server. This means that you have an extremely high degree of reliability
that your information cannot be compromised because we simply
will never have it.
